Grading System - Credits
Records of academic achievement are maintained by the College in the form of credits and percentage grades. a. Credits Academic work is measured in hours of credit. Each credit hour corresponds to one contact hour per week in the semester system. Some courses earn fewer credit hours than the number of contact hours may seem to justify. This is because they involve time spent on visits, laboratory work, guest lecturers, film shows and so on. Laboratory work and supervised work experience during the institutional part of the course require a minimum of thirty hours for every one-hour of credit earned. Work experience/internship requires a minimum of one hundred and fifty working hours for every one hour of credit earned. The maximum number of credit hours that may be earned this way is 3 for each period of internship. b. Grades: The following table shows the equivalence between percentage grades and other grading systems:
I. Pass: Grades of "P" are not computed into the student's cumulative grade. Grades of "PR" will be computed into a student' s cumulative grade percentage as being equivalent to 60. II. Failure: Grades of "F" are not computed into the student's cumulative grade percentage average, once the student has repeated and passed the failed course. III. Transfer credits: Grades for courses taken at another College or University do not enter into the computation of the cumulative grade. IV. Averaging grades: A Grade Percentage Average (G.P.A.) is determined for each student at the end of each semester. The year - to - date average is computed by multiplying the number of semester hours of credit of each course by the percentage grade and then adding them. The sum total is then divided by the total number of semester hours of credit for which the student has received a grade.
V. Change of grades: No grade may be changed after it has been submitted to the academic affairs officer without the approval of the program director. They are not authorized by the faculty to change a grade, except when an instructor certifies that, because of an error in calculation or in transcription, an incorrect grade has been submitted. Students who have a grievance relating to a faculty member are invited to discuss their academic grievance as follows: a. Complaints related to a faculty member who cannot be resolved between the two parties should be discussed with the course coordinator on a person-to-person basis. b. Complaints related to the course coordinator should be filed with the Academic Director. |
